Penyffordd Lions First Team and Veterans kicked off the new season in style as players, families and supporters came together for a fantastic afternoon of football and entertainment.

Penyffordd Football Club marked the start of the new season with a brilliant family day at Abbotts Lane, as the Lions First Team took on the Veterans in a fiercely contested friendly.

With fantastic support from across the club, including players and families from our Juniors section, the afternoon was a great opportunity to bring the different sections of Penyffordd Football Club together and celebrate the start of another season.

Despite the friendly billing, there was no shortage of competitive spirit once the whistle blew. Rivalries across both squads produced an energetic and entertaining encounter, with plenty of goals and action for the supporters watching from the sidelines.

The Veterans made the stronger start and headed into the half-time break with the advantage. The Lions responded after the restart, however, mounting a second-half comeback to eventually secure the victory in a hard-fought and thoroughly entertaining contest.

First Team Manager Stu Tunnicliffe and Veterans Manager Jim McKinnon both reflected positively on the afternoon, praising the occasion and a valuable run-out for both squads as the season gets underway.

THE PARTY CONTINUES

The final whistle wasn't the end of the celebrations.

Players, families and supporters headed to club sponsor The Red Lion, where the season launch continued with food, live music and a bouncy castle, rounding off a fantastic day for the whole club.

More than simply a pre-season fixture, the afternoon captured what Penyffordd Football Club is all about: bringing together our senior teams, juniors, volunteers, families and supporters through football and our local community.
